Micheal Owen praises Liverpool following their convincing win over Rangers
Liverpool bounced back with a convincing 2-0 victory over Scottish side Rangers FC in their third UEFA Champions League encounter.
After a disappointing result against Brighton over the weekend, the team needed to put up a good showing which they rightly did with two set-piece goals from Trent Alexander Arnold and Mohammad Salah.
Another positive factor was that the team kept a clean sheet after a long period which would give the defence a good boost of confidence moving forward.
Former Liverpool forward Micheal Owen shared similar insights post-game via his Twitter (h/t Liverpool Echo) and praised the boys for playing at set standards shown in the past.
“Much more like their old selves tonight from @LFC A timely performance with a huge game on the horizon this weekend.”
The Reds have borne the brunt of criticisms since the beginning of the season due to their poor form which sees the team in the ninth position in the league.
It feels all the more disappointing considering we were fighting for a quadruple just last season. The dip in form of many key players has not been an easy watch either.
Hence, the UEFA Champions League fixture against Rangers provided the team with the perfect opportunity to regain some form and confidence and solidify their position in the group.
The team responded valiantly to the call and had complete control of the game from start to finish. The scoreline could have been a lot different had it not been for the amazing performance by Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who kept on defending the flurry of Liverpool attacks.
As mentioned by Micheal Owen, the situation regarding the form was getting critical with Klopp himself admitting that it is one of the worst slumps of his Liverpool career. Hence, a strong performance could not have arrived at a better time.
Klopp’s men face Arsenal on the weekend, who are sitting top of the league with seven out of eight wins while playing some wonderful eye-catching football.
It certainly would not be an easy affair as has been the occurrence of past seasons and we would need to be on our best to achieve a good result.
