Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan implies club has progressed under FSG
Speaking in an interview with SportBILD as quoted by Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan has implied that the club have progressed in multiple ways under owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
Hogan has claimed that the main objective of the Reds each season is to make sure they qualify for Champions League football. However, he did accept that the FSG were well prepared even if by any chance, they miss out on the qualification.
The arrival of German manager Jurgen Klopp really turned around the fortunes of the Reds. Prior to that, Liverpool had qualified just once for the competition under the FSG ownership but have since then qualified in each of the past six seasons now.
Hogan went on to state that the former Dortmund manager who is now in his seventh season at the club wants to leave Liverpool in a better shape than he found them in, and there is no doubt that that is the case.
Speaking about the ways the club has progressed under FSG, Hogan went on to state the following
“That (Champions League qualification) is always our goal at the beginning of the season. But we manage the club in such a way that we make sure that we are as sustainable as possible”
“Sales have doubled since he [Jurgen] arrived. The stadium will be significantly bigger. We have a new training ground. The club has grown significantly in the past six or seven years. We want to continue that because we think there is still a lot of potential.”
There is no doubt that Klopp has changed a lot at Liverpool ever since he came here. He picked up a club in shambles and has now made them one of the best clubs in the world, leading them to Premier League and UEFA Champions League glory.
But there have been criticisms from fans aimed at the ownership for not spending enough. The club seems to lag behind when it comes to buying players without having to raise cash first from selling players.
While it makes sense from a financial point of view, the team can suffer on the pitch. The failure to add a quality midfielder in the past several transfer windows played a big part in our poor start to the season.
The Reds may not have had the best of starts to the current campaign but they have also not been helped by a number of external factors. Injuries have not helped Klopp and a number of key players have hit a rut at the same time.
The 2-0 win against the Rangers was a much-needed win for the Reds and a welcome return to form for many of those players. Klopp will be hoping that this sparks a change in Liverpool’s fortune for the rest of the season.

Liverpool find themselves ninth in the PL table, way below the Champions League spots. However, if there is one team that can turn the situation around, it is the Reds and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to do just that.
