Jurgen Klopp explains why Liverpool fans should be optimistic about Darwin Nunez

Speaking in an interview ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Arsenal in the Premier League tomorrow as quoted by popular journalist James Pearce, Jurgen Klopp has given reasons why Liverpool fans must be excited and optimistic about new summer acquisition Darwin Nunez based on what he sees in training.

Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in a big-money move and this meant that expectations have been high for the talented striker to hit the ground running straight away. Despite a good start, the Uruguayan has received criticism in recent weeks.

The 23-year-old has played eight games for the Reds till now across all competitions scoring just two goals and providing one assist. An ill-fated suspension that saw him miss three straight games really did not help the cause.

We have seen many times in the past that player actually struggle when they come to England from other leagues and take a bit of time to adapt to the rigours of English football. It looks like Nunez is also going through a period of adaptation.

Jurgen Klopp insists that Reds fans must be patient with Nunez and highlighted the fact that the Uruguayan gets into good positions during games.

“One of the things he’s shown in the games he’s played is that he gets himself into so many good finishing positions so everyone should be optimistic about what is coming.”

It is true what the German tactician says. The tougher thing to learn is to know how to get into the correct positions. Nunez seems to have that trait and it is only a matter of time before the Uruguayan starts finishing off his chances.

We have seen during his time at Benfica and with the national team that the 23-year-old can be a lethal finisher. Sooner or later, we will see Nunez putting the ball into the back of the net in a Reds shirt on a consistent basis.

In a snippet quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Klopp has revealed the kind of finishing he sees from Nunez at training and spoke glowingly of the 23-year-old.

“If you could see him finishing in training, you’d think: oh my God! Then he feels the pressure, or these kind of things”

There is no doubt that Nunez possesses the talent to be a solid striker for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp can undoubtedly see it and he knows that the Uruguayan will come good given the time and peace of mind.
