LFC Transfer News: Liverpool face Barcelona competition for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans
Liverpool transfer target Youri Tielemans is now on the transfer radar of Barcelona ahead of the January window, as per Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The Leicester City midfielder is in the final 12 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium (Transfermarkt). This means that he could entertain offers from foreign teams come the January transfer window.
That would give non-English clubs an advantage if they do want to sign the Belgium international next year. His future at Leicester City remains uncertain, and the Foxes are off to a horrific start this season.
Brendan Rodgers’ team have amassed a shocking tally of just four points from nine league games so far. This is relegation form and a player of Tielemans’ quality would surely be upset that his team is languishing at the foot of the table.
The Reds’ midfield also has a void to be filled. Thiago Alcantara is one of the world’s best midfielders when fit – but he has had his bouts with injuries. Neither is Jordan Henderson getting any younger, whose lack of creativity in possession frustrates fans at times.
Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are perhaps one of the most unfortunate cases at Liverpool in the past few years. They were big investments by the club and the duo showed promise whenever they played during their initial seasons here.
But lately, their injury issues have derailed their careers. They are out of contract in the summer of 2023 and it would be best if the club let them leave.

Tielemans, 25, is in the prime years of his career and can be a good addition to our midfield. His passing range and vision are something our attackers can potentially benefit from, but with Barca also lurking, it won’t be an easy task to lure him away from the prospect of playing at Camp Nou.
