PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos responds to Kylian Mbappe rumours amidst Liverpool interest
In wake of rumours suggesting that Kylian Mbappe wants to leave the French capital after feeling “betrayed” by the team’s management, PSG’s sporting director Luis Campos has set aside all speculation for the time being. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
Earlier this week, Spanish publication Marca (via ECHO) reported that the 23-year-old French striker did not want to play at the club anymore as he felt “betrayed” by the management and the promises of the new contract. It suggested that a parting of the ways was in the offing.
Apparently, the forward wants to depart as early as January due to ‘unhealthy relationships’ with the administration at the Parisian club. Moreover, it has been reported that the French champions would prefer to sell to Liverpool ahead of Real Madrid.
However, PSG’s Sporting Director Luis Campos spoke to RMC Sport and has come out to the public. He had the following to say regarding the speculation that Mbappe could seal a move away from France in the next transfer window.
“I am very surprised because I spend all my days with Kylian Mbappé, and he never once asked me or the president to leave in January. We have to be very clear that this isn’t a declaration – it is news that has come out a few hours before a very important match against Benfica.”
Mbappe at Merseyside
Statistically speaking, Mbappe has been one of the world’s best forwards since his move to Paris from Monaco. In 230 appearances, he has 183 goals and 88 assists in all competitions for PSG.
He is off to a wonderful start this season as well, scoring 12 goals in 13 appearances this season, very recently scoring against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League. Liverpool’s attack, even though has not been firing this season, has enough depth to compete.
While there are no doubts over Mbappe’s level of skill and performance, the number of centre-forwards in the team seems sufficient at the moment. Moreover, with Liverpool spending big bucks to sign Darwin Nunez from SL Benfica earlier this summer, the need for one more forward, and that too a bloody expensive one seems a stretch.
There could be questions about his professionalism, but that is obviously subject to change over time. Adding one more forward to the line-up at this point is not a necessity and what the club is really in need of is a midfielder.
