Michael Owen asks Jurgen Klopp to field Roberto Firmino for Liverpool vs Manchester City
Following the stupendous 7-1 win over Rangers wherein Roberto Firmino scored a brace and got an assist, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has urged Jurgen Klopp to start the Brazilian against Manchester City this weekend.
The 31-year-old is in sublime form this season and is Liverpool’s joint-highest goalscorer and assist maker alongside Mohamed Salah with eight goals and four assists altogether in 12 appearances across all competitions.
With six goals, he is also the Reds’ highest goal-scorer in the Premier League, and third overall, falling short of Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. Given his recent form, it is extremely difficult to drop him out of the Playing XI.
Owen, talking on BT Sport (h/t The Express) expressed his desire to see Bobby start against Manchester City in the league this weekend.
“I can’t imagine he’s not playing. He’s had such a good season and is in such good form that I don’t think Jurgen Klopp can leave him out at the weekend.”
Roberto Firmino for Liverpool
Even in the Reds’ last league fixture, against Arsenal, Bobby scored the Reds’ second equaliser and was excellent in his movement and run frequency in London. Fans would expect the same of him at Anfield this weekend.
Manchester City will probably be Liverpool’s biggest game this season. It has come at a very crucial time wherein the Reds have just accumulated some momentum and hope to carry it forward. However, with City’s top-class team and Erling Haaland’s form, things could go wrong for the Reds as well.
That is why we need all our top players performing at the peak of their abilities to ensure the good form carries on and the Merseysiders end the season well, after not having the most ideal of starts. This is where Firmino comes in crucial for Liverpool.
