According to Gol Digital (h/t Liverpool.com), Liverpool FC are monitoring the situation of American international Yunus Musah of Valencia CF. The 19-year-old central midfielder has two assists from six appearances in La Liga this season.
It is no secret that Liverpool need a new midfielder. Liverpool’s current starters in midfield are not getting any younger by the day, and the natural midfield options we have in youngsters are either always injured or extremely inconsistent.
The recruitment team tracking a young midfielder comes across as positive news. Jurgen Klopp is probably crying out loud for a new player in the middle of the park. Moreover, with the contracts of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita expiring next summer, the requirements will be just more insistent.
Musah is a product of Arsenal’s academy and could contribute towards the homegrown player criteria of the Premier League. The youngster, who has featured for England across major youth age groups, chose to represent the senior United States Men’s National Team.
The teenager has 18 caps for USMNT. At merely 19, he would help reduce the average squad age for Liverpool in case he decides to make to move to Merseyside. The Reds also have Jude Bellingham on their radar, but with Real Madrid’s increased interest in the player, a Merseyside move seems unlikely, to say the least for Jude.
And with a release clause of £26m, Musah seems a more realistic target compared to Bellingham’s valuation of £131m. The Arsenal academy graduate, in 77 appearances for Valencia has five goals and three assists across all competitions.
Since he is only 19, Liverpool could develop the player to fit the role they want him to play. Currently, he is a box-to-box midfielder and plays attacking midfield on certain occasions. With that being said, Liverpool could explore the opportunity of signing Musah as early as this winter transfer window.
Considering that he is only 19 years old, he would definitely be an ideal candidate for Liverpool to recruit. The Reds could actually potentially explore the option of getting him on board, to be Liverpool’s fourth American player.
