Report: Liverpool set to play AC Milan in a mid-World Cup friendly

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool will play Italian giants AC Milan in a mid-World Cup friendly when the Reds set up camp in Dubai to undertake something similar to a pre-season camp.

Liverpool had initially planned to set this pre-season camp at Cape Town, South Africa but eventually settled on Dubai as it would make it easier for players who get eliminated from the World Cup to fly out.

Whilst most Liverpool players will be out on national duty, players like Mohamed Salah who will not be going to Qatar will be in Dubai and the Reds look to be up to shape and preparing for the crucial schedule ahead.

Facing AC Milan will always be an exciting prospect for fans, even though it is just a friendly and this would be a riveting fixture. Whilst a date has not yet been scheduled, it remains to be seen when the fixture happens.

A clash between the 2005 Champions League finalists, albeit without the top players will still be joyful to watch. On that memorable night, the Reds emerged on top while Milan had their revenge in Athens two years later. Since then, the clashes between the two European giants have always been something to look forward to.

Even last season, the two teams faced each other in the Champions League. The Reds emerged victorious in both legs at that time, winning 2-1 on the opening matchday of the group stage and 3-2 on the final matchday.

It’s not very common to see a mid-season camp set up but with the World Cup unusually happening in November-December, it is going to be a new experience for players and fans alike and we will have to get used to it.

It remains to be seen who are the Liverpool players who will stay back during the World Cup but there is no doubt that there will be high-profile names who will be with the Reds at the training camp in Dubai.

Liverpool have not had the best of starts to the season and a break in November will do them the world of good. It remains to be seen who else we play during the mid-season break but AC Milan will surely be a good test for us.
