Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott on what Mohamed Salah was murmuring to him at the Ibrox

Liverpool had a fantastic visit to Ibrox earlier this week. After conceding first, the Reds came back in solid fashion to end the game against Rangers 7-1. Roberto Firmino scored a brace, Darwin Nunez scored his first goal for the Reds in the UEFA Champions League and Mohamed Salah came back to form with the fastest UCL hat trick.

However, the icing on the cake was Harvey Elliott and his performance against the Scottish outfit. He scored the Reds’ last goal in the fixture from close range, in what turned out to be his first goal at the European level. The goal was subject to a VAR check and the celebrations had to wait.

Salah, from the edge of the box, squares the ball to Diogo Jota but the keeper dives in to scoop it away to Elliott who slots it past McGregor. Elliott’s positioning was subject to a check by the VAR official.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Elliott revealed what Salah was whispering in his ear during the VAR check for the teenager’s first Champions League goal.

‘‘It was an iconic moment for myself, to have Mo there in the background and he just kept whispering in my ear: ‘It’s a goal, it’s a goal!’ But I was just thinking to myself, ‘Don’t celebrate too early, don’t celebrate too early!’’

High-class Harvey on form

Apart from the goal, Harvey had a brilliant game starting at right-wing at the Ibrox. Elliott was one of the best players for Liverpool on the night until Salah and Jota stole the show after their introduction.

With this goal, Elliott takes his total goal contributions this season to two from 13 games. He had earlier scored in Liverpool’s 9-0 win vs Bournemouth at Anfield in what was his first Premier League goal.
