“What we expect from the referees”- Manchester City star slams Anthony Taylor for disallowed goal vs Liverpool

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva slams referee Anthony Taylor for Phil Foden’s disallowed goal vs Liverpool

Bernardo Silva has asked referee Anthony Taylor for consistency in his decisions after he ruled out Manchester City’s opening goal against Liverpool in a tightly contested Premier League game at Anfield earlier today.

The Portugal international celebrated with his teammates after Phil Foden scored from a tight angle in the starting stages of the second half. However, their joy was short-lived as the referee correctly ruled out the goal after consultation with VAR.

Erling Haaland pulled Fabinho down by his shirt in the build-up to that goal, which was deemed as a foul. Silva has come out firing in his post-match interview with Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo) and slammed the referee for not being consistent with his whistling.

“What we expect from the referees is consistency in decisions. When you go through a path of not whistling little contacts throughout the whole game, you need to keep those decisions and keep going that way.”

Perhaps Bernardo is right but in a sense that favours Liverpool’s argument. The ref notably did not give a foul to Mohamed Salah when the former AS Monaco winger clearly made a rough challenge on the Egyptian star in the 85th minute.

Jurgen Klopp was sent off for screaming at the linesman following that moment, which saw a harsh red card. After all, we have seen managers do worse things and get away without even a warning.

If there is any team that should complain about the refereeing, it is the Reds. Rodri was also not booked for clearly stopping a budding Liverpool counterattack with his hand.

The goal being disallowed was the right call. A soft foul is still a foul and you cannot pull people down by the shirts. That’s what the laws say, after all.

Also, Klopp got sent off for questioning one call. Let’s see what Foden gets for implying that the referee’s entire display was inconsistent.
