Jurgen Klopp believes it was the correct decision to rule out Phil Foden’s goal
Liverpool claimed a big win over rivals Manchester City in their quest to change the course of the season and move up the league table. Coming into the game, Liverpool were in tenth position and thirteen points behind Manchester City and a defeat could have had dire consequences.
However, the team showed a spirited performance and gave a glimpse of a couple of past seasons with an energetic display, leaving no room for the visitors to narrate the game.
Manchester City, though, had a goal scored by Phil Foden which VAR eventually ruled out due to a foul in the build-up. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave his honest assessment of the ruled-out goal and believed it was the correct decision.
“In the end, the VAR looked and that’s not right but I cannot understand how you do not whistle that situation. I just do not understand. If you look back at it you think ok, that’s an interesting view that you let the game run in that moment.”
Klopp was furious about the officiating done in the match and was given a red card for voicing his opinions. He claims that he does not understand how the foul was not given before when it actually happened and the referee had to consult VAR to correct his decision.
It was definitely a game-changing moment as City had been dominating since the start of the second half and we were under a lot of pressure. With a goal down, it would have led us to expose our defence more in a bid to score an equaliser.
The main issue surrounding the goal was Erling Haaland’s foul on Fabinho which led to the Brazilian losing the ball and eventually allowing Kevin de Bruyne to put one in the box which was met by Foden to put the Citizens ahead albeit for a few moments.
It was a resounding win for us and would give a big boost of confidence to the entire team and squad which would definitely be helpful in regaining some lost form.
The only possible worry from the game was the injury sustained by Diogo Jota, who was taken off on a stretcher during the final stages of the game.
