AC Milan interested in signing Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino next summer
Brazilian international and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has been in good form this season and through his performances, has made his way back as a key member of the starting line-up.
Firmino is Liverpool’s highest goal scorer in the season currently with eight goals in all competitions and according to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool.com), his performances have attracted the interest of Serie A giants AC Milan.
The 2021/22 Scudetto champions look to strengthen their attacking options and could move for Firmino next summer, just like they did with the Brazilian’s former teammate Divock Origi who made the switch from Merseyside to Milan in the summer transfer window.
AC Milan have gone from strength to strength under Stephan Pioli and currently sit 3rd in the Serie A, just 3 points behind leaders Napoli FC.
Over the past few years, they have followed a similar strategy as adopted by its rivals Juventus in moving for top-quality players who are towards the end of their contract situation at the current club.
Firmino’s contract expires next year and although there are speculations that he might prolong his stay at Anfield, a departure is also not completely out of the picture.
Liverpool is expected to go big in the next summer transfer window with their plans of a squad overhaul which might limit Firmino’s game time and importance to the first team.
At 31 years of age, Firmino has one move to a top club which is still possible and that could play a factor come the end of the season and the player decides to move pasture.
A fan favourite with his ever-present energy and grit, Firmino would surely be missed if he ends up leaving. With the signing of Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, it felt like the current season would have been the one where the player starts playing less than before.
However, he has impressed the most in a Liverpool shirt with his performances and made his deserved place in the team, thus proving that there is still a lot to come from the Brazilian. It remains to be seen how this saga will unfold and if his improved performances result in a potential new deal from the Reds.
