“We can’t really afford that- Andy Robertson reveals Liverpool players’ dressing room reaction after Nottingham Forest loss

Liverpool unhappy with the result at Nottingham as per Andy Robertson

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson spoke about the dressing room environment after the 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The Scotland international was part of the starting XI, replacing Kostas Tsimikas in the starting lineup.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s early goal in the second half was the difference between both sides. With this result, Liverpool are yet to win an away game this season. One would have expected Jurgen Klopp’s men to get the three points against a struggling Forest side. But in football, anything can happen, and this game was proof of the same.

As a result of the Liverpool team’s loss in today’s match, Robertson admits he and his teammates are ‘gutted’ with the game’s outcome. However, it is essential for the Merseysiders to move on and focus on what’s to come.

Here is what Robbo told the club’s official website and shared his verdict on the game:

“Yeah, a really tough one and in our position we can’t really afford it. Obviously we wanted to end a really good week, try to end it with nine points which would have sat us nicely and it’s not happened. I think from early doors it was quite clear that one goal was always going to sort this game out, both teams cancelling each other out first half, not many chances and then they get a goal. A poor free-kick from us, poorly defended and then you find yourself 1-0 down.”

With more possession of the ball and more attempts on goal (stats per FotMob), one would have naturally expected the Reds to emerge victorious. However, as things stood, Liverpool were not as clinical as Cooper’s side and it shows in the result.

The defending for the goal was not great as Liverpool tend to defend free-kicks usually better than this. A free-kick from their own half saw the ball go to the full-back standing wide of the goal who just had to play Awoyini to slot the ball past Alisson, albeit on the second attempt.

The first-half miss by Virgil van Dijk eventually cost the Reds three points. The defender unselfishly tried to find a teammate instead of going for the goal. However, Jurgen Klopp and his men are much stronger than this and will hopefully come back stronger against Ajax Amsterdam.

It was surely not a great performance from the senior members of the team, especially Fabinho. The player has looked off-colour for probably the entirety of this season and could be one of the reasons why the Reds are not performing as good as they usually should be.
