FA declare ruling on Jordan Henderson’s incident for Liverpool against Arsenal

The FA decides to not take disciplinary measures against Jordan Henderson following the Gabriel Magalhaes incident during Liverpool vs Arsenal

The FA released a statement via their website, clearing Jordan Henderson of any wrong-doings in Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Liverpool in the Premier League earlier this season. An investigation took place after the Reds’ skipper got into an argument with Gunners’ defender Gabriel.

Hendo, an active member of the Premier League’s No Room for Racism campaign stood accused of making offensive remarks to the Brazilian. However, following the Association’s verdict, it is now clear that the former Sunderland midfielder’s words were misinterpreted.

Match referee Michael Oliver gave his version of the incident in a formal submission to the FA, and also spoke to both managers during the incident as well. Following the official report and the players’ witnesses, it came to the conclusion that Hendo is not guilty.

Here is what the Football Association‘s statement read:

“The investigation included taking witness statements from the complainant and accused, along with an additional six players who were within proximity of the alleged incident, reviewing multiple angles of video footage, and seeking independent linguistics experts evidence. None of the witnesses heard the alleged comment, and the player accused strenuously denied the allegation throughout.”

“Whilst The FA is entirely satisfied that the allegation was made in good faith, it is equally satisfied that there is no case to answer.”

Henderson cleared by the FA

It came as a shock that Henderson, of all people, saw himself accused of a racist remark. The Liverpool skipper is one of the most vocal members among Premier League captains when it comes to social issues and thankfully he has now been cleared.

Liverpool won three back-to-back games across all competitions after that loss to Arsenal, including a 1-0 win vs Manchester City. However, the run came to an end after Jurgen Klopp’s men lost to Nottingham Forest away from home last weekend.

With the FA’s statement now out, Henderson can put this incident behind him and strive to give 100% on the pitch from the next game onward, against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League. The Reds would have been confident of Hendo’s innocence knowing the player, and it is only apt to see the ruling come in his favour.

More Liverpool News

Hendo is a very important pivot in Liverpool’s team and it is extremely important for him to get back to form as soon as possible and start more games instead of lesser experienced players to oversee the Reds to more wins heading deeper into the season.
