Jurgen Klopp outlines hurdle in Liverpool achieving consistency ahead of Ajax clash
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League clash between Liverpool and Ajax Amsterdam as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has outlined the main hurdle that is preventing his team from achieving the kind of consistency that they have shown in previous seasons.
Liverpool have been extremely inconsistent this season. A sensational win against Manchester City was followed by a disappointing loss to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League and this has been a highlight of their season so far.
It is very unusual for Liverpool who have showed so much consistency over the past few seasons. It remains to be seen how the Reds bounce back this season considering the situation they find themselves in.
The loss to Forest means that Liverpool find themselves eighth in the Premier League table and have a lot of work to do if they want to get into the Champions League spots and then focus on the title.
Liverpool are considerably better placed in the Champions League and need just one point against Ajax to secure their qualification to the next round but will want to try and progress as group toppers.
Speaking about the situation, Klopp lamented the injuries that the Reds suffered as the main reason for the inconsistency.
“When you want it really clicking you need consistent in the line-up and we haven’t that. When you have (lots of injuries), players who should be rested have to play and players come back from injuries too early. That’s tricky. That situation isn’t sorted overnight.”
It is true that the Reds have been plagued by an injury crisis and this could be one of the reasons for their inconsistent display but it surely is not the only reason and Klopp has more questions to answer.
