Liverpool star Darwin Nunez opens up on advice afforded to him by Luis Suarez
According to ESPN (h/t The Daily Mail), Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has revealed just what former Reds hero Luis Suarez told him following the troubled start to life at Anfield,
The Reds went big for the Uruguayan star, potentially making him their most expensive signing in history. Despite scoring on his competitive debut in the Community Shield vs Manchester City, Nunez has been privy to controversy.
He got sent off for a moment of madness against Crystal Palace and was awarded a three-game ban. This largely skilled the momentum he was building up and left the Reds without their ace centre-forward for a few key games.
Nunez has since returned to action and has been among the goals. While he does contrive to miss opportunities, the 23-year-old clearly knows where the back of the net is. All that is left is for him to get into a rhythm.
He now looks far more settled and it would appear a former, Red, Luis Suarez had something to do with it. Nunez admits that the Uruguayan legend had a word with him and it helped him rediscover his footing.
“Listen to an a***hole like me”, he told me. I am very grateful for that message and the love it has for me.”
Suarez is no stranger to controversy, having been involved in several off-the-ball issues while at Anfield. But then, there was no doubting his quality as a footballer as he truly belonged in the elite category.
It would appear that age has wisened up the former Reds’ number seven and he is today a mentor of sorts to Nunez. He has warned the Liverpool star that provocations will not come to an end and that it is his duty to be strong enough to deflect them.
“Luis told me that these things in the Premier are going to happen in all the games, that they are going to come looking for me, that they are going to hit me, and that I must become strong and I must not repeat the s**t he sent me.”

Nunez certainly is improving week in and week out and cannot be labelled a flop. The very fact that a youngster has been judged harshly is a testament to the non-patient nature of today’s game. As long as he continues to perform, Nunez will find that his detractors will have less ammo to fire upon him.
