AC Milan target free transfer move for another Liverpool star after Divock Origi capture

Italian giants eye Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita on a free transfer

According to Fichajes.net (h/t Liverpool Echo), Stefano Pioli’s side are targeting Liverpool star Naby Keita ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window. The midfielder’s contract is set to expire in 2023 (transfermarkt) and as per the same publishing, Keita has “no intentions” of renewing his contract at Merseyside.

Divock Origi moved to AC Milan earlier this year on a free transfer after eight years at Anfield. The Italian outfit are now keen to add another Champions League winner to their ranks.

Constant injuries and inconsistent performances have derailed Keita’s Liverpool career, and he has certainly not lived up to the £52.7

the Reds coughed up for him back in 2018. Even now, the former RB Leipzig midfielder has only returned from an injury layoff.

Liverpool ideally would want to cash in on the player instead of losing him for free, especially after investing so much money in his services. However, at this point in time, it is wise for both, the player and the club to move on and find other suitable replacements.

Keita could leave Liverpool

His time at the club so far has frustrated the fans on a whole other tangent. One week he plays like prime Steven Gerrard and the following week, he would struggle to make a five-yard pass without the ball being intercepted.

In 117

appearances for Liverpool across all competitions, Keita has 11 goals and 7 assists
, most of which came just last season. It has been a tough few weeks for the Guinean with his injury situation, and one would not expect him to feature for the Reds before the new year.

The Reds are not the best equipped when it comes to midfield depth. It is now an absolute necessity to ensure that a new player joins Anfield possibly as early as the January transfer window to oversee Liverpool to a top-four finish.

More Liverpool News:

It is extremely disheartening to see the boys lose games they were favourites to win, and in such cases, there is only so much a manager could do as well without proper backing from the top bosses. The results have hopefully shown John W Henry the need for an overhaul, especially in the midfield.
