Liverpool fans have overindulged in success in the recent past due to Jurgen Klopp and his flourishing time at the club. The Reds have qualified for the UEFA Champions League every season under the German, but this season seems challenging even for the former Dortmund manager.
Currently sitting in the ninth position on the points table, Liverpool are far-off from a UCL spot, never mind the title. Newcastle United sit in the last of four spots for the competition and Eddie Howe’s side are eight points above the Reds.
Moreover, the Reds have lost consecutive games to league opposition sitting in the relegation zone which makes matters worse for Liverpool, who were not doing exceedingly well otherwise as well. Klopp certainly is in dire straits in terms of the state of affairs of the club right now.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager and pundit Tim Sherwood believes that Klopp might take a drastic step in case the Reds fail to secure a spot in the UCL next year. Here is what he said via the Liverpool Echo:
“If they don’t finish in the top four, the manager will have to sit down with the hierarchy there and see if he has the motivation to carry on,”
“I don’t think he’ll be able to pick it up and go again. I think he’ll leave if they finish outside the top four.”
Sherwood believes that after enjoying so much success at the club, Klopp might be insecure and could possibly not have the motivation to take the Reds from there on. The German has certainly been at the club for a long time and would hate to leave the Reds in an uncertain situation.
As per the club CEO Billy Hogan, and obviously, otherwise as well, Klopp wants to leave the club in a better state than what he found it in back in 2015. But with this situation he finds himself in, it would certainly be tough for the man himself to turn things around.
However, one thing almost certain is the fact that the senior management at the club would never ask the German to vacate the club. Under the German, Liverpool have won every club trophy football has to offer and it would be disrespectful to Klopp.
Knowing the man, one could barely tell that he is feeling sated if he is first of all. Jurgen’s managerial career at his previous clubs have ended in not the most likely way, and we can only hope that it is not so for Liverpool.
