Journo claims Liverpool midfielder has suffered yet another injury setback

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita suffers another injury after recently returning from a lay-off for a different issue

It has been a frustrating ride for Naby Keita at Liverpool since his move in 2018. The former RB Leipzig midfielder has for sure been a let-down with his inconsistent performances and injury frequency. The 27-year-old runs out of contract at the club in the summer of 2023 (Transfermarkt).

One could argue that the £52.7m

the Reds gave up for the Guinean international has certainly not been worth it. The maths comes down to almost £2.9m per goal contribution from the midfielder. In 117 appearances across all competitions for us, Keita has 11 goals and seven assists.

He saw himself out of most parts of this season and was named on the bench in GW2 against Crystal Palace. Recently returning back from an injury layoff and getting into team training, news has emerged from verified journalist @DaveOCKOP via Twitter that Keita is injured again.

Keita has missed 79 games due to injury since his hyped arrival at Anfield from the Bundesliga. His last appearance for Liverpool came in last season’s UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid. So much has changed since then, and Naby has been out injured since.

However, there is no further news on this latest injury situation. Hopefully, it is not much as the Reds need Naby more than any other time right now given the injury frequency and the need to rotate the squad to avoid fatigue.

Given the World Cup later this month, the issue of fatigue becomes much more magnified than at any other time as there would be numerous matches played in a short time frame. It is high time that Naby proves his worth, and hopefully, this injury is nothing but a minor thing.

It now seems like a long shot that the Reds will offer him a new contract. He isn’t available whenever we need him and neither does he look like a player we can build our midfield around.

That’s not because of his ability. He is as talented as the next Premier League midfielder but he just seems to be picking up injury after injury. The only way a new deal would make sense would be to sell him off later and cut our losses.

More Liverpool News:

Otherwise, not a lot of people will be upset seeing his back once the season ends. The weight of the number 8 jersey seems to have been too heavy for him to handle.
