John Barnes urges Jurgen Klopp to follow the Arsenal model at Liverpool

Liverpool legend John Barnes has urged Jurgen Klopp to follow the Arsenal model at Anfield. He has urged the Reds to trust their young players similar to what the Gunners have done this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side are one of the youngest and best in the Premier League this season. The north London club have put their trust in their younger players and are reaping the benefits.

Barnes has urged Klopp to follow a similar model at Liverpool. Speaking to Bonus Code Bets (h/t Liverpool Echo), the former midfielder gave his thoughts on the matter.

“(Harvey) Elliott, (Luis) Diaz, (Darwin) Nunez and (Fabio) Carvalho are the future of Liverpool. These are the players that, if they are treated right and supported, even if they don’t necessarily want to win the league or the Champions League. As the Arsenal players are showing. Last season they didn’t qualify for the Champions League and the young players were a bit inconsistent. But because the fans have stuck with them and everything was positive, they are now reaping the rewards of that and hopefully Liverpool will be the same.”

The Reds have a mix of young and old players in their squad. While the young players need the experience to improve their game, Klopp has usually stuck with his senior players when needed.

Players like James Milner (37) and Jordan Henderson (32) are still regulars for the club, while the likes of Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho

Barnes is not wrong in his assessment. Plus, the trend in the recent transfer market shows that clubs are now more focused on getting young players and developing them, rather than spending their money on experienced players.

However, it will be wise to transition slowly rather than overhaul the entire squad at once. The current side is still one of the best and a good future plan is necessary so that the club can continue playing at the highest levels of the game.
