Calvin Ramsay talks about his first Liverpool start followed by his first Scotland call-up

One of Liverpool FC’s three summer signings, Calvin Ramsay had one of the best few weeks of his professional career. The 19-year-old Scot joined the Reds in the summer for a fee of £4m plus another £2.5m in add-ons, made his first appearance for the senior team on 1st November against Napoli and played for three minutes towards the end.

And against Derby County on 9th November in the EFL Cup, Ramsay made his first start for the club and was extremely impressive. Earlier on the same day, the former Aberdeen right-back received his maiden call-up to the Scottish national side as well.

The teenager, during his time at Aberdeen, was extremely impressive as well and made 39 appearances for the Scottish outfit scoring a goal and nine assists before moving to Liverpool not so long ago.

A back injury was detected during his medical for the Liverpool move and due to that, he could not train with the first team effective immediately. Ramsay had to be patient for his chance and took it gracefully. Speaking to the club’s official website about the past week, here is what he said:

“It has been a brilliant week for me and for my family as well, it’s a proud moment for us all,

“Obviously I was injured when I first came here. I wanted to come and just get started straight away but it wasn’t the case, I was out for a month or two. I was ready to get back and get onto the pitch. I knew what the atmosphere would be like.”

Moreover, at Liverpool, he could learn a lot from first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Scouser broke through the first team as an academy graduate and has cemented himself as one of the world’s best right-backs in modern football.

Ramsay looking good for Liverpool

Ramsay looks threatening further up the pitch and gives excellent defensive stability as well. He was especially good on the ball in his brief appearance against a strong Napoli side in the UEFA Champions League which shows his level of self-confidence.

At merely 19, his career has just started to take off and from what it appears, Ramsay could have an excellent career at Anfield and hopefully, he grows to be a huge name for club and country.

Ramsay could certainly hope for a brief appearance against Southampton in the league this weekend. Following Trent’s inclusion in the England squad for the World Cup, the Englishman could do with some rest, giving an opportunity to young Calvin to make his presence felt in the English top tier.
