Transfer News: Cody Gakpo names Liverpool among other clubs that he would like to join

PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo has named Liverpool among others as the club he would like to join next summer. The 23-year-old was of interest to rivals Manchester United this summer.

Erik ten Hag was interested in bringing the Dutch winger to Old Trafford this summer, but after much negotiations and interest, no move could happen.

Now, the winger while speaking to NOS (h/t Metro), revealed the names of five clubs that he would like to join next summer, which included the Reds too.

“PSV was always my dream club. I don’t really have one for the rest. Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. It would be an honour to play there, but I also have to see what kind of team I can best achieve my goals.”

Gakpo has been sensational for his side this season. The Dutch international has scored 13 goals and registered 17 assists in 24 games for the Boeren this season so far in all competitions.

Liverpool could do with a winger like him in their squad. Mohamed Salah is in his 30s, although the Egyptian is still one of the best in the world. The duo of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are both 25 and could be considered the future attack of the club.

Adding Gakpo to this attack would make Jurgen Klopp’s side one of the fastest and fiercest in the league. Given the numbers he has put in so far, he would without a doubt make an excellent signing for any team.

The Dutchman sees his current contract expire in 2026. With decent performance in the World Cup, his price is bound to rise. The Reds would be wise to start the process of his transfer now, or they could be too late later on.

It remains to be seen if the Merseyside-based club does make any move for the winger next summer. With other clubs likely to join the race for him, fans will hope that the 23-year-old only signs for them.
