PSV Eindhoven and the Netherlands star Cody Gakpo is no hurry to decide future amidst Liverpool links
The Netherlands star Cody Gakpo has suggested that he is not in a hurry to leave PSV Eindhoven amidst links to Liverpool. The 23-year-old is calm about his future prospects.
The Holland international has popped up on the radar of several clubs with his performances in the last few months. Manchester United were close to signing the forward in the summer of 2022, while he is also open to a move to Manchester City and the Merseysiders.
Arenal have also been touted as a potential destination for Gakpo. However, speaking to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad (h/t Metro), the 23-year-old revealed he is in no rush to follow other superstar teammates abroad.
“I understand the mindset of those players [who dream of joining a major European club]. I also have my sporting goals myself and I will make a choice from there.
“But it is certainly not the case that when I train here with players who play at big clubs abroad, I constantly think, ‘oh dear, now I also have to go abroad quickly’.”
The Holland international is currently with Louis van Gaal’s team in Qatar. In the Oranje’s two games against Senegal and Ecuador at the 2022 World Cup, the PSV forward has found the back of the net on both occasions.
Subsequently, Gakpo became the second Dutch player ever to score in his first two games at the prestigious FIFA tournament. Memphis Depay replicated the feat for the Netherlands in 2014 in Brazil.
The Holland international is also in fine form for his Eredivisie outfit. In 24 appearances for PSV in all competitions this season, the 23-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists.
While the forward’s numbers have been impressive, Liverpool evidently already have a stacked attack. We signed Darwin Nunez in the recent transfer window. And Luis Diaz arrived from FC Porto in January 2022.
Mohammed Salah also recently put pen to paper and extended his stay with the Reds. Jurgen Klopp can also call upon the likes of Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. Youngsters Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are also capable of playing in the attack.

Thus, the Merseysiders seem to have more pressing issues. Most fans feel the middle of the park needs a revamp. And instead of pursuing Gakpo, it would be wise for the club to focus on bolstering other areas of the pitch.
