Liverpool could make a move for the Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo
According to Dutch journalist Hans Kraay Jr. via ESPN (h/t Liverpool Echo), PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands star Cody Gakpo is admired by Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders which could potentially lead to the club making a move for the attacker.
The 23-year-old has been in sensational form this season having scored an impressive 13 goals and assisted 17 goals in 24 matches so far.
The stats are enough to describe the form that the Dutch forward, who has replicated his club-level form on the national stage, has scored consecutively for the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup.
He was on target against Senegal and Ecuador. Worryingly for his current suitors, such form could attract the eyes of other European giants and increase the player’s valuation. His contract only expires in the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt).
Gakpo was close to a move to rivals Manchester United in the summer but in the end, it did not materialise and the player ended up staying at PSV Eindhoven.
Now, with his current form at the World Cup, many believe that a move to a big club for the player is imminent in the coming transfer window, with United particularly interested to replace Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure with Gakpo.
Hence, it would be a tough fight to go for Gakpo in the winter transfer window having already gone heavy on recruiting forwards in the past windows. More than anything, our midfield needs repair and ideally, that should be the one to be looked at first, before moving on to luxury signings such as Gakpo.
Liverpool would be going through a phase of transition once the change of ownership initiates and hence it is important for the club to keep hold of the strong and powerful dynasty that the team has achieved over the past few seasons.

Therefore, our next move in the transfer market will be very important in determining the direction the club chooses to go in. Hopefully, it is the same route taken by our current recruitment team who have received immense praise for the transfers done in the last few seasons.
