Report: Klopp could rekindle former Dortmund connection as Liverpool look at Julian Ward replacements

Sven Mislintat in contention to replace Julian Ward as Liverpool Technical Director

Ever since Julian Ward’s decision of stepping down as the Technical Director of Liverpool FC at the end of the season became public, there was much speculation over the club’s future and his successor.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg via his Twitter said that the Reds are looking at Sven Mislintat as a replacement for Ward and get him over at Anfield to take over as the club’s technical director at the end of this campaign.

The German has vast experience in scouting and has been the Technical Director of Arsenal before as well. However, his best times in that role have come with the German team Borussia Dortmund wherein he was responsible for the signings of Robert Lewandowski and Ousmane Dembele to name a few. A rift with Thomas Tuchel saw him leave Dortmund to seek a job elsewhere.

But Dortmund is where his association with Jurgen Klopp began when the pair were at the helm for the Bundesliga giants before Klopp eventually became Liverpool manager. However, filling in the shoes of Michael Edwards and Julian Ward would not certainly be the easiest of tasks for the German international.

With FSG’s shrewd methods of business, the success Edwards and later on Ward brought to the club in terms of their transfers and scouting is immaculate. Mislintat himself has a few big names on his back, but his time in the Premier League with Arsenal was surely not the best, to say the least.

‘Mis’ or a hit with Mislintat?

Currently, Mislintat is in all likelihood enjoying his free time watching the World Cup as his latest stint with VfB Stuttgart came to an end just this Wednesday after the club endured what was their worst start to their league campaign in a few years.

More Liverpool News:

The club seems to be in a backroom overhaul after FSG’s intentions of selling the club were made public by the conglomerate in the first week of November. Hopefully, this change does not mean anything negative for Liverpool on the pitch.
