“Go to watch a game”- Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold fed up of ‘lazy’ criticism

England and Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold fires back at critics who think he is “lazy”

Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold has fired back at critics who call him lazy because of his performances. The 24-year-old believes some people have preconceived notions about him.

The right-back has come under heavy criticism in the current campaign for his seemingly unbothered displays. Those who have an issue with the defender feel he does not track back adequately.

Speaking to talkSPORT (h/t Daily Mail), Alexander-Arnold revealed he is not bothered by the assumptions that some have of him. The right-back feels there is a wrong perception that surrounds his gameplay.

“If you go to watch a game and have a perception that a player is lazy and you see them once not running, then in your mind they’re lazy.”

“You see what you want to see, you don’t see the rest of the game where they’re running around, trying to do their thing.”

The England international has been one of the best players in the Premier League over the years. The creativity the 24-year-old brings from the wise areas has been immense in the Reds’ success under Jurgen Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold broke into Liverpool’s first team in the 2017/18 season. Since then, he has grown from strength to strength and developed into a world-class talent.

The 24-year-old has been a regular member of the Merseyside outfit as we went on to lift the English top-flight title after a 30-year drought. In our Champions League win in 2019, the right-back was pivotal as well.

In the previous campaign, when Klopp managed to take us to four finals, the English defender made his mark. In 47 appearances in all competitions for the Reds, the academy graduate scored two goals and provided 19 assists.

This season, it is not just Alexander-Arnold who has been underwhelming. The whole team has failed to perform well. Thus, singling out the 24-year-old is unfair.

The right-back’s reputation seems to have affected his national exploits as well. While the defender is in Qatar with the Three Lions, he has only been handed around 30 minutes against Wales so far.
