Liverpool could sign Napoli’s Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski this summer
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski. The German made an official bid to Udinese back in 2016 for the 28-year-old, but the circumstances during that time meant he chose the move to Italy over Anfield.
However, as per Italian reporter Rudy Galetti (h/t Liverpool.com), the Reds could possibly rekindle their interest in the player as the midfield situation at the L4 needs an overhaul, to say the least, and the gaffer could ‘go back for’ an old transfer target.
The Polish attacking midfielder has one goal in the World Cup this year, and in 21 appearances across each competition for the club all season, he has six goals and seven assists. As a matter of fact, two goals and an assist of these came against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League, so the Kopites would somewhat know his skill level.
Liverpool have lacked a goal threat from midfield ever since Phillipe Coutinho left the club, which almost feels like a different era, and have also lacked stability in the last one or two seasons after Georginio Wijnaldum left for Paris Saint-Germain.
Zielinski and Liverpool
Zielinski is more or less, an amalgamation of those two players. The threat of a goal always looms, and the fact that he is readily available to play week in and week out without getting injured frequently is a very big plus point. He has not missed more than two games a season due to injuries, and Liverpool would obviously love to have such a player on board.
Klopp knows the strengths of the player, and he could well and truly fit Liverpool’s plans. Hopefully, the gaffer can convince the Poland international to join the Reds as early as this summer – hopefully, after we secure UEFA Champions League qualification once again.
It is, after all, a big draw for players across the globe. Napoli are expected to qualify with ease as they are currently top of the Serie A table. Hence, we have to give a reason to Zielinski to convince him to join us.
The fact that he is entering the final 12 months of his contract soon could mean that he will be available in the market at a rebated price, and if things go our way, we could see the player at Anfield next summer.

Presently, the Reds do not possess as much depth as their rivals in the squad, and the addition of a player or two will certainly help Liverpool get back on the right track. And as far as Zielinski is concerned, a player of his calibre can certainly walk into our starting XI from the get go.
