Newcastle United eyeing Liverpool transfer target Marcus Thuram
Liverpool target Marcus Thuram is subject to interest from Premier League rivals, Newcastle United, as per Chronicle Live. The Frenchman is currently a part of Didier Deschamps’ squad for the World Cup and has played a total of 28 minutes in the tournament.
In 17 appearances this season for Borussia Monchengladbach, he has 13 goals and four assists across all competitions. With these stats for the club, he is the Bundesliga’s second-highest goal-scorer and has the most shots on target in the German top tier as well this season.
Thuram is a versatile forward who can play through any channel in the frontline but mainly plays through the middle, and tends to drift wide towards the left. He is also of an ideal age profile and the 25-year-old is just entering the best years of his career.
Thuram is out of contract in the summer (Transfermarkt) and that is why so many teams including the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool have shown interest in the player. He has been a standout performer in a top-five league and a move to the Premier League could come soon for Thuram.
He could prove to be a long-term replacement for Roberto Firmino, who also sees his contract run out next summer. Even though he has been a huge servant of the club, Liverpool should work in the best interests of the club.
But with Newcastle’s apparent interest, Liverpool will need to get things going quickly if they intend to sign the player. The Magpies are an ambitious team after the Saudi Arabian takeover in ownership and could promise Thuram things we may not be able to – such as high wages and guaranteed playing time.
However, the fact that the Reds are ready to spend a sizeable amount on a player is good news, but the player is not necessarily the most immediate of requirements at the club.
Liverpool need a midfielder more than any other player, and hence, it would be ideal to see a new player join the club who can play the central midfield role for the club.

Thuram won’t be a bad buy, of course, but not at the cost of not signing a midfielder. However, the fact that he could be signed as a free agent next year would largely alleviate this potential problem.
