According to Footmercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani following his extraordinary rise in the past couple of years, which saw him make Didier Dieschamps’ France 26-man FIFA World Cup squad.
Kolo Muani has been terrorising Bundesliga defences this season and has been in exceptional form for the German outfit contributing to 19 goals in 23 appearances so far.
It is clear that Frankfurt have a really talented forward in their hands and with top teams such as Liverpool circling around, the club would be looking to generate some major revenue from this transfer.
German outlet Bild (h/t Liverpool Echo) reported in November that any suitors will have to pay upwards of €70million but his inclusion in the France World Cup squad could increase the price further as well.
Tottenham Hotspur are also deemed to be interested in the player and it could turn out to be a bidding war between the two English clubs if the interest is pursued further.
With the player’s contract running till 2026 (Transfermarkt), it does seem like a steep task of convincing Frankfurt to let go of their star player, who was instrumental in their UEFA Europa League win last season.
On the other hand, Liverpool has just gone big on a striker in Darwin Nunez and it would be a rather foolish move to go for the Frenchman irrespective of the form that he is showing.
We need reinforcements in other areas of the pitch rather than attack where we are stacked up with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Fabio Carvalho, Harvey Elliot and Roberto Firmino.
In case one of the above leaves the club then the interest could be revisited for a potential transfer but for now it does seem like a far-fetched interest with no pertinent connection. Moreover, any meaningful contributions for France in the World Cup can make him a risky target to pursue.
That is because he is turning out for one of the most coveted international teams in world football and impressing on the international stage could skyrocket his valuation as well as the number of suitors chasing him.
Fans could see him in action when Les Bleus take on England in the FIFA World Cup quarter-final on 10 December. He is a backup striker, but there is every chance that he features as a substitute.
