Roberto Firmino contract talks ‘positive’ as Liverpool star could extend deal until 2025
Liverpool and Roberto Firmino have started negotiations on a new contract and the Brazil international could extend his stay with the Red until 2025, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.
The 31-year-old’s current deal with the Merseyside outfit expires at the end of the season. But the talks between the two parties have been ‘positive’ and the forward ‘can imagine’ staying at the club beyond 2023.
However, Jurgen Klopp will be a big factor in Firmino’s decision to put pen to paper on a new deal. The 31-year-old has a great relationship with the German manager.
Earlier this year, Klopp extended his contract at Liverpool by a further two years until 2026. However, considering our current position in the Premier League, it remains to be seen whether the former Borussia Dortmund head coach will fulfil his commitment.
As for the Brazilian, he has been in fine form for the Red in the current campaign. The forward signed for us in the summer of 2015 and has since grown into an important player for the Anfield side.
Alongside Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane, Firmino had formed one of the best attacking trios in world football. While he left most of the goalscoring to the Egyptian and Senegalese, the 31-year-old worked his socks off and provided creativity through the middle.
Unfortunately, in the previous campaign, injuries hampered the Brazilian’s game time. We made it to four finals last season but lost the league on the last day and fell to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
While Liverpool have been rather underwhelming this season, Firmino has been doing his thing. In 21- appearances for the Red in all competitions, the 31-year-old has scored nine goals and provided four assists.

The Brazilian has been a great servant to the club over the years. With Darwin Nunez still seemingly settling in at the Anfield side, it would be wise to keep an experienced centre-forward like Firmino around for a few more years.
