Harvey Elliott gives Liverpool an injury scare against Lyon in a friendly game

In Liverpool’s 3-1 loss in a pre-season friendly against Lyon in the Dubai Super Cup, Harvey Elliott came off the pitch in the 29th minute. Melkamu Frauendorf came on for the 19-year-old but, the main concern is the injury for Elliott. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Prior to his injury, the player combined well with Fabio Carvalho to get the Reds’ only goal in the game. None of the other starting players were taken off before the halftime, giving rise to the speculation that the injury might be something serious.

Until further diagnostics, the Reds cannot proceed with any further action with respect to Harvey’s injury situation. However, the gaffer Jurgen Klopp gave a somewhat positive update on the former Fulham player’s situation and believed that the Reds were ‘lucky in the moment.’

Elliott has been one of Liverpool’s better players throughout an otherwise substandard season for the team as a whole. It says levels about him when as a 19-year-old, Harvey had far more impact on certain games than other established stars in the team.

His Liverpool career properly moved gears when he returned from his loan spell from Blackburn Rovers in 2021. He dislocated his ankle in the 21/22 season when Liverpool took on Leeds at home, and missed a majority of the season, spending his time recovering from the same.

Ever since his return, he has been performing exceedingly well, and god-willing, this injury scare is not something long-term, and he returns to optimum fitness levels in time to face Manchester City in the EFL Cup on 22nd December.

Alongside Fabio Carvalho and Curtis Jones, Elliott forms the core of the future of the club. Hopefully, the addition of another English midfielder, who could be playing in Germany at the moment could complete the set for Liverpool, who could possess one of the strongest coming-of-age midfield trios.
