Morocco’s successful run in this World Cup can there or thereabouts be narrowed down to two people- Walid Regragui and Sofyan Amrabat. This particular manager-player duo is largely instrumental to the Atlas Lions’ boomy run in the tournament.
The midfielder sees himself linked with a move to Liverpool. Given he performs with the same consistency he has been showing in Qatar, the Reds will do themselves a world of good by getting him into their ranks.
Currently plying his trade in Serie A side Fiorentina, the 26-year-old is also on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur. Not only that, his performances have made sure that top European clubs also make a note of his performance, and his brother has called out one such club.
The defensive midfielder is a like-to-like for Fabinho, but also capable of playing advanced roles the likes of Jordan Henderson and Thiago do, on either side of Liverpool’s #3. More than a goal threat, Amrabat is a box-to-box ball carrier, who could benefit the Reds.
There is absolutely no doubt that the player will increase the Reds’ bench strength in case he decides to move to Merseyside, but given Fab’s on-and-off form off late, Amrabat could possibly start more than the odd game or two for the Reds.
His contract with Fiorentina expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt) and here is what his brother said in a recent interview calling out PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi with L’Equipe (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Nasser Al-Khelaifi, if you read my words, take my brother!”
PSG’s proneness to injury could mean that they could do with more depth to their already star-studded bench. How similar are Liverpool and PSG, except for the star-studded bench? Well, both teams have injury-prone players.
In the end, one would believe that it would only be a race against time for any club to secure the services of Amrabat post the World Cup.
