Liverpool face two key issues in their pursuit of English sensation Jude Bellingham

Champions League and ownership uncertainty could derail Liverpool in Jude Bellingham pursuit

Liverpool are leading the race for Jude Bellingham, but the uncertainty around a Champions League place and the club’s ownership threatens the Reds’ pursuit, according to The Athletic (Subscription required) [h/t Metro].

The Reds are currently eighth in the Premier League, 15 points behind table-toppers Arsenal. The 19-year-old would not be willing to make a move to a club outside of the elite European club competition.

On the other hand, FSG have put the Merseyside outfit up for sale. Our current owners would not be willing to spend big on someone like the England international as of now.

Liverpool are also going to lose sporting director Julian Qard at the end of the current campaign. Thus, the club could fail in their bid to sign Bellingham.

The 19-year-old is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023. In the English top flight, the Reds, alongside Manchester City and Chelsea, are eyeing his signature. European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the England international.

However, the Anfield side are seen as the favourites to land the midfielder. Jurgen Klopp likes him and wants the BVB star at the club. But the Merseyside outfit will not be able to match some of the other clubs when offering wages.

Bellingham has been in fine form for Dortmund since making his way to Germany in 2020 from Birmingham City. The 19-year-old also showcased his talent at the 2022 World Cup.

One of the reasons for Liverpool’s struggles this season has been the injury crisis. Several of our players have missed a good chunk of the campaign. The middle of the park has been affected.

Bellingham is a generational player who has the ability to get into any top team. The Reds should do everything in their power to secure the 19-year-old’s signature.
