Agent of Liverpool transfer target Youssoufa Moukoko makes Borussia Dortmund contract claim
In what could prove to be a huge boost for Liverpool in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko, the German international’s agent recently made a claim on the player’s contract stance with the Bundesliga giants.
A product of the Borussia Dortmund academy, the player could end his six-year association with Die Schwarzgelben and depart at the end of his contract in the summer of 2023 (Transfermarkt).
His agent, speaking with Sky Germany (h/t Liverpool Echo), confirmed that a new contract for Moukoko is still brewing and the parties have not reached a conclusion yet, and the doors for him to leave the club are still open.
He is free to discuss terms with other European clubs from 1 January as FIFA rules allow players to do so when their existing deals have six months or less remaining. His agent said:
“I can confirm that we are not about to conclude a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund. I can also assure you that the numbers that are circulating are simply not correct and Youssoufa was never offered that much. But we are still in contact with Dortmund and will see what the next few days bring.”
The 18-year-old is in fine form for Dortmund, and only this season has six goals and as many assists in 14 appearances across all competitions. Also part of Joachim Low’s German side at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he made a solitary appearance against Japan in the tournament.
Moukoko to the Reds?
Moukoko has a proven track record of scoring goals at a young age. He has already scored an impressive number of goals in the youth ranks and will likely be looking to translate that success to the senior team. If he is able to score goals at a consistent rate, any team could benefit from having him in their ranks.
The Reds might be looking at Moukoko as a long-term replacement for someone like Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian, 31 also runs out of contract at the club next summer (Transfermarkt), and Moukoko as opposed to Bobby has a long career ahead of him.
However, Firmino has been absolutely vital for the Reds this season and has been one of the most consistent performers for Liverpool in an otherwise very inconsistent season. Therefore any decision taken should be extremely well thought out, and then only given the go.

But currently, the Reds will need the services of a midfielder in their pursuit of a top-four finish. A new body in the middle of the park will certainly push the Reds’ agenda of making it to a UCL spot. The next summer promises a lot of new beginnings for the club and hopefully, it is only positive.
