Trent Alexander-Arnold has completed club football at the age of 24. There is no trophy the game has to offer that the Liverpool academy graduate has already won with the club. The current record holder for the most assists for a full-back in Premier League history, he still has a long way to go.
However, his exploits with the club have not translated into success with the national team. Under Gareth Southgate, Trent has found it tough to break into England’s playing XI, and more often than not, has been a bench option for The Three Lions. Even in the World Cup, he accumulated a total of only 30 mins of playtime.
Having said that, the player is one of the most skilful players in the football world and if he keeps growing on the same trajectory, there is absolutely no doubt that he will establish himself as one of the world’s best right-backs. Moreover, former Manchester United captain and pundit Gary Neville also agrees and added that international players respect Liverpool’s #66.
Speaking to Sky Sports via Liverpool Echo, here is what Neville spoke about Trent being one of the most respected English players in the world:
“I can see now that English players are respected. International players really respect the likes of [Jude] Bellingham, [Phil] Foden, [Jack] Grealish, [Trent] Alexander-Arnold and other players in that position.
“I think that’s been designed by a very good system in the last 10 years and I think it’s right that we try wherever possible to promote English coaches moving forward.”
Trent stands widely respected by his fellow international footballers for his talent and accomplishments on the pitch. His technical abilities and tactical awareness as a right-back are highly regarded even with the fact that the defensive aspect of this game is not among the best. Neville also mentioned the name of Jude Bellingham
, who is a long-term Liverpool transfer target. Moreover, Trent’s professionalism can be important for the team as they look to bounce back from a difficult start to the season. His composing approach on the pitch can help inspire confidence in his teammates, and his work ethic and commitment to the team can help set the tone for the rest of the squad.
If he can stay fit, focused, and motivated, and continue to work hard to improve his defensive game, he can certainly be a key player for the team as they fight for a top-four finish in the league after a wobbly start to the campaign.
Another key point is the fact that Trent has not recorded any assists so far this season and hopefully, he changes that in the second half of the Reds campaign starting on 22nd December against Manchester City in the EFL Cup Fourth Round.
