Liverpool plan January deal for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez
After his match-winning performances in Argentina’s successful campaign in the 2022 World Cup Final, FIFA’s Young Player of the Tournament, Enzo Fernandez‘s links with Liverpool are getting stronger by the day. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
A report from last week stating that Liverpool concluded on a pre-agreement with the player stood disregarded by the concerned personnel in Merseyside. However, that does not mean that the Reds still do not have an interest in the 21-year-old.
He got a goal and an assist in the World Cup and was putting the hard yards in midfield for La Albiceleste and overall, was one of the best young players in the tournament. For Benfica before the international break, he accumulated three goals and five assists in 25 appearances across competitions.
Even if not this January, the Reds obviously have the option of getting the player on board over the summer as his contract with Benfica lasts until 2027 (Transfermarkt). The financial aspect of the deal is something the Reds will need to be wary of.
Liverpool also have Jude Bellingham in their aspirations, and both players will not board the flight to the John Lennon Airport for anything less than £130m as valued by The Athletic. With FSG’s spending habits we are used to, it will be nothing less than a miracle if the Reds can get both players on board.

Given how the Reds’ current midfield is ageing, and with the inconsistent performances creeping in due to the same factor, it is wise of the Reds to look into the future and think about the same. Bellingham and Fernandez are both young world-class talents and have the potential to lead any team to success.

Hopefully, that team is Liverpool and the duo, in case they make the move to the Reds, create a lasting impact on the team as a whole and inspire the team to win more silverware than they already have.
