Former Aston Villa player and pundit Gabby Agbonlahor talks about Liverpool needing Jude Bellingham

Liverpool’s tough time in midfield is no secret. And certainly not to one of the Reds’ biggest critics in former Aston Villa midfielder and talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor. It is very evident that the Reds have struggled to make ends meet when it comes to the midfield scenario.

Agbonlahor believes that the Reds will have to try and sign their primary transfer target Jude Bellingham in all ways possible to tackle the numerous midfield issues Liverpool have been facing for the entirety of this season.

Apart from Thiago Alcantara and to some extent skipper Jordan Henderson, the midfield has absolutely no cohesion at all and it has been extremely easy for opponents to power their way and penetrate through to our defenders, for whom we could write another story about.

Here are Agbonlahor’s comments on Liverpool’s bad form in midfield and the need to sign someone like Jude Bellingham: (via talkSPORT on YouTube):

“Liverpool need him [Bellingham] though, Keita’s always injured, Chamberlain injured a lot, Fabinho’s got no legs and can’t get the ball back”.

Whether or not Gabby talks about the Reds with the best interests of the club in mind is another topic, but here, speaking about Fabinho, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it is very hard to argue that he is not right.

Poor Midfield for the Reds this season

The Brazilian has been eerie for the Reds ever since we started our league campaign against Fulham and it is surprising to see him not at his usual level. And as far as Keita and the Ox are concerned, an ideal assessment of their game could only be done if they would be available for a prolonged period of time. The two accumulated have not even played a single minute for the Reds in competitive fixtures this season, and it is worrisome, to say the least.

Bellingham is a young and talented midfielder who has shown promise in his early career with Birmingham City, now Dortmund and the England national team. Signing a player of his calibre and potential could potentially be a positive move for Liverpool as they look to improve their form.

Hopefully, the incoming of a midfielder or two over the summer can change Liverpool’s fortunes for the good and we could see our midfield rock the Premier League once again.
