David Moyes talks about the possibility of Declan Rice leaving West Ham amid Liverpool interest
It seems like the top brass at West Ham United is aware of Declan Rice‘s interest to move on from the club and make a move to a European giant in the near future. Liverpool are a club that share an interest in the player and could make a move for him to replace Fabinho.
The 23-year-old’s contract at the East London side expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt) and the upcoming summer window could prove to be the last big chance for the Hammers to get a substantial price for the player.
In 215 appearances across various games for West Ham, the Irons’ skipper has 11 goals and as many assists. However, goal contributions are not a scale to measure the skill levels of a defensive midfielder.
The club manager David Moyes has been speaking about the possibility of Declan Rice leaving West Ham in the summer and here is what he had to say via Liverpool Echo:
“He wants to win. We are not just going to roll over and let Declan walk out the building. It’s going to be a big fight and I like it — because Declan wants to challenge himself and wants to play in the big games and he wants to be a top player.”
Rice or Bellingham
It is very strange to talk about Rice as a player as his contributions on the pitch does not offer any output in terms of goals and assists. He is a player who has come up the ranks at Chelsea’s academy in Cobham, and they also share an interest in signing the player.
Liverpool’s #3 Fabinho has certainly not been in the best of forms this season, and without a like-to-like replacement for the player available at the club, the Reds could in all likelihood move for Rice, as the England international can give much-needed depth to the squad and at the same time, pose a big threat to Fabinho to start games.
However, it will not be easy to get him on board as he will be mighty expensive and among Jude Bellingham and other Liverpool targets, one would imagine the Reds to prioritise signing the Borussia Dortmund man over others given their prolonged interest in the man.
