Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic opens up on scoring his debut goal for the club
Liverpool have found a new sensation to be excited about after watching youngster Stefan Bajcetic’s performance, which helped the Reds secure all three points against Aston Villa in their first game of the restart of the campaign.
Liverpool were leading 2-1 when the game entered the final fifteen minutes however Villa were continuously attacking our box in search of a goal.
Hence, Klopp bought on Bajcetic who made only his third appearance for the senior club and the youngster repaid the faith shown by Klopp to bag home the decisive third goal in a very cool and composed manner.
A holding midfielder by nature, Bajcetic was sent in to help prevent the lead but ended up getting on the scoresheet himself.
Post the game, the player was asked on the official Liverpool website how he felt after scoring his first goal for Liverpool.
“Unbelievable. I just came on and tried to run and defend – that was my job.”
“I saw Darwin running and I thought, ‘OK I have to go there.’ The ball came to me and I didn’t know what to do – I’m not used to scoring goals!”
“I saw the long ball, I know how fast Darwin is and I know how good he is, so I knew he was going to get something on that ball. So I just got into the box, the ball came and I just scored.”
Bajcetic’s comments certainly show humility and maturity in the player who took the decision of moving from Spain to England very early on and the decision is certainly paying off.
Signed from Celta Vigo in the summer, the Spain U-19 international came with a lot of hype and excitement as a talented prodigy.
While getting used to the intensity of English football by getting minutes with the reserve team, Bajcetic just had to wait for his chance. He rightly did so and grabbed the opportunity with both hands, staking a claim for a position in the starting eleven.
Although it is a far-sighted thought that Bajcetic could play a big part in the current season with the number of midfield options available to Klopp, he certainly did enough to be part of the team and gain the much-needed experience.
