Liverpool keep tabs on Morocco World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat

Ever since his pivotal performances for Morocco in the recently concluded World Cup, Sofyan Amrabat has seen himself linked with a number of clubs, predominantly Liverpool. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder is currently under contract at Serie A side Fiorentina until the summer of 2024 per Transfermarkt.

After the timely signing of Cody Gakpo earlier this week, the Reds now absolutely need to reinforce their midfield and someone like Amrabat, who is on top form could be of help to the Reds in their pursuit of a top-four finish to secure Champions League football for next season.

Even with extensive links to players including Enzo Fernandez and Jude Bellingham, the Reds are still in the mix for Amrabat as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport via The Mirror who claim that the Reds are still ‘on his trail’.

As per the same report, Liverpool will need to shell out €40m-€45m to secure the Moroccan international’s services. With the Reds’ eerie season so far, we cannot even promise Amrabat the prospect of playing in the Champions League, as that is the reason we need to sign players.

Amrabat and the Reds

Having said that, the need for a new midfielder is absolutely real and more than a need, a necessity for the Reds now. James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara all need long-term replacements. Moreover, Fabinho has not been at his best this season, and we could do with a player to give him much-needed competition for a place in the starting XI.

When it comes to current form, in terms of defensive midfielders, Amrabat tops the list due to his aggressive defensive work rate and could be a quality addition to the Reds. Hopefully, the curious case of Amrabat performing is not a one-off.

Even if not this window, the Reds will certainly need to sign a player or two over the summer as it is extremely important to secure the future at Liverpool in terms of the midfield or else we will be subject to becoming too stale and predictable.
