Liverpool star Roberto Firmino shares injury update ahead of Leicester City fixture

Roberto Firmino, who has seen himself sidelined ever since the season restart, is currently edging closer to a return and will certainly bolster the Liverpool attack on his return. A calf injury sustained in training has seen him out for so long, and the Reds’ #9 spoke about his return to action.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Hoffenheim striker was optimistic about returning to action soon and even though he is not in contention to face Leicester City on New Year’s Eve, he could be back in the squad for the trip to West London to face Brentford.

Liverpool’s restart to the campaign was extremely successful, as they won against a new-look Aston Villa side under Unai Emery and the Reds created plenty of chances in the game, which was refreshing to see.

Speaking to talkSPORT via Metro, here is what the Reds’ #9 said about coming back to action:

‘‘I’m already healed, thank God. I’ll probably train tomorrow. Then all being well I’ll be ready not for the next game but the one after that. So all great.’’

Bobby back from injury soon

Confirming his return for the match against Brentford, but without his services against Leicester, the Reds will probably have to do with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the wings for one more game. Until at least Cody Gakpo is registered which could take until Tuesday.

Presently, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are all sidelined due to various injury issues, but Lucho and Diogo will take until late in February or early March to be back. But the return of Bobby will be extremely crucial for the Reds.

In 21 appearances for the Reds across all competitions for the Reds this season, he has nine goals and four assists which makes him the Reds’ second-highest goal scorer overall and joint-first in the league alongside Mohamed Salah.

A full-strength Liverpool side boasts one of the best attacks across Europe. However, we still do not have the midfield to match that attacking class, and hopefully, we sign a world-class player or two in the upcoming windows.

Hopefully, his top-class performances earn him a new contract. His present deal ends the coming summer (Transfermarkt) and his game deserves it without a shadow of a doubt.
