Liverpool join race for Ligue 1 side Rennes star Martin Terrier

25-year-old left-winger Martin Terrier of Stade Rennes is the latest entrant to what seems like a never-ending list of Liverpool transfer targets. The France international in 21 appearances across all competitions has 11 goals and five assists.

There was a void in the team after both recognised left-wingers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota saw themselves sidelined due to chronic injury issues and hence, the Reds stood cornered to play Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of position in the game against Aston Villa.

However, with the signing of Cody Gakpo, the need for a left-winger now diminishes to a certain extent. But according to French outlet Media Foot via The Mirror, the Reds still stand interested in Terrier but would wait till the summer to make any move.

The said report also claims that plenty of Liverpool’s rivals also share an interest in the player including the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham. Unlike the rest of the teams on this list, a full-strength Liverpool side is full of attacking options and does not necessarily need a new addition in that department.

However, forward mainstay Roberto Firmino sees out his contract in the coming summer, and there is no official news of any extension yet. The Reds could in all likelihood be wanting to look beyond the Brazilian who has been an absolutely staunch servant of the club over the years.

At 31, there is still a lot of football left in him and given his recent form, he can go on for more than just a couple of seasons in the top flight. Even though it is not bad that we stand linked with a top-class player in Terrier, he might not be a requisite for the club at this stage.

It is important for Liverpool to have a good mix of different types of players in order to be successful and it is possible for the team to have too many attackers and throw off the balance of the team.
