Liverpool rekindle their interest in Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes
After seeing themselves linked with him for the entirety of the summer and also watching him make a move to our Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool rekindle their interest in Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes.
The Telegraph (Subscription Required) report the Reds have rekindled their interest in the 24-year-old Portuguese international. He is not off the mark yet with the Wolves and does not seem to be performing on the same level during his time at Sporting CP.
The central midfielder has played 16 games for Wolves across all competitions and has only one assist to his name. More than goal contributions, he does not seem to be fitting great in the Midlands outfit.
Given how Julen Lopetegui’s side themselves have not done well, the individual players do not come into the picture for doing well at all.
Nunes to Liverpool?
Only showing certain glimpses of why he was so in demand in the summer, he has not quite been that successful. The Reds had an agreement in principle with the player last summer, and following that, he could in all likelihood be on his way to Anfield at the end of the current campaign.
Liverpool’s midfield seems so incomplete at the moment and with a number of players towards the final few months of their contracts, and another few nearing the twilight of their careers, we need long-term replacements. Nunes could prove to be a good fit as the recruiters would know a thing or two about the player they have extensively scouted throughout the summer.
The deal would be about £44 million if it goes through, and the Reds could have a new midfielder in their ranks. However, the Reds certainly need more than just one midfield to add, and hopefully, following the dreadful performances in recent weeks, we add someone like a Jude Bellingham to our ranks as well.
His deal at Wolves lasts until 2027 (Transfermarkt) but they could use the funds to possibly strengthen other aspects in their squad, and help the Reds get their man on board.

The performance against Brentford, especially in the first half, was just not good. Our midfield was overrun and it can’t be put down to just Harvey Elliott, given his inexperience and physique. It’s our fault that it has come to this.
Nunes should be signed as soon as possible. If not him, then someone of equal quality – and then, a move for Jude Bellingham should be the priority this summer. That’s what the fans would want after what has been an irritating season, mainly because of our midfield.
