By this point, given how they are guilty of knocking Liverpool out in each of their Champions League runs bar one season since 2018, almost every Reds fan would have a sour feeling when it comes to Real Madrid. Moreover, they also snatched our primary transfer target Aurelien Tchouameni last season, and eye Jude Bellingham this time, who is also a long-term Liverpool target.
But now, fresh news coming from French outlet Media Foot (h/t Liverpool.com) tells us that Los Blancos want our 23-year-old star centre-back Ibrahima Konate. Yes, let’s take a moment to giggle at that demand and head on towards the details of why they might be eyeing our star man.
Nacho Fernandez is nearing the end of his career with Real, and then if the opportunity to play left-back arises, David Alaba would want to explore that scenario. Hence, to play centre-back, Carlo Ancelotti could be looking at Ibou and also have Josko Gvardiol on their transfer radar.
There are three or four main points when it comes to Konate. First off, the player stood injured for the most part of the current campaign, and has not really got to go full throttle with the Reds this season, and would be raring to go as he could potentially return to the matchday squad against Brentford after a prolonged post-World Cup break.
Second, at only 23 years old, he has already established himself as a solid defender at the professional level and has the potential to become a top player in his position. It would be a mistake for Liverpool to sell such a promising young player.
Konate is a player who has already shown that he has the talent and ability to succeed at the highest level, and it would be a shame for Liverpool to miss out on the opportunity to nurture his development and help him reach his full potential.
He is a player who could succeed Virgil van Dijk in the long run and potentially go down in Liverpool’s history as an able contributor to the team’s success.
To see a team like Real Madrid enjoy his services would not go down well with the majority of Reds as there seems to be a European rivalry between the two clubs.
Even if they want him, they should be ready to spend the big bucks as Konate is a player for the future and has an extremely high ceiling of performance. His contract at Liverpool lasts until 2026 (Transfermarkt) and hopefully, he does not go elsewhere before that.
