Liverpool show interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s French midfielder Manu Kone
The Reds are among a number of teams including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United showing interest in Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach. The 21-year-old French midfielder has a contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt) at Die Fohlen.
Primarily a central midfielder, Kone is a versatile player who is capable of playing both, advanced and defensive roles in the midfield. In 44 appearances for Daniel Farke’s side across all competitions, Kone has four goals and two assists to his name.
From his statistics, he seems like a player who gets into the referee’s book more often than not, as in 14 appearances in the league this season, apart from getting a goal and an assist to boot, he has five yellow cards to his name as well.
Liverpool’s interest in the player was first put out to the public by Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano via Twitter. He also stated that a summer move is the most likely of all situations for Kone.
After that shambolic performance against Brentford, it is crystal clear that the team needs reinforcements in several departments. With the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara are not getting any younger and that must be taken into consideration, it becomes absolutely vital that we get a guaranteed first-team starter into the midfield as soon as possible.
Kone to Liverpool?
Kone is not the only Bundesliga midfielder with a link to Liverpool as we have had Jude Bellingham on our radar for a while now. Still, the Reds mustn’t put all their eggs into one basket as by the looks of it, only Jude is not enough to solve the Reds’ prevalent issues.
We need several midfielders in addition to him, and Kone could possibly be one of those. The only problem which could come the Reds’ way is the fact that his long-term contract could mean that the player might be a tad bit on the expensive side because plenty of top European clubs show interest in the Frenchman.
Liverpool though need someone who can join the club in this window and fit into the thick of things and get going as soon as possible as the situation when it comes to the midfield is too tough to even see as a fan.
