Brendan Rodgers keen to keep Youri Tielemans amid Liverpool links
Youri Tielemans is a name not new to the Liverpool transfer radar over the last few seasons. The 25-year-old Belgian at this point is a recognizable talent to Premier League fans following his exploits for Leicester City.
The Reds could benefit themselves greatly by taking the links to the next level and getting the Foxes star on board. Liverpool’s midfield is arguably their weakest aspect this season, and the legs in that department cannot possibly go on for beyond half a season.
The Reds need to look into the long-term, and who better than Tielemans as he will just enter his prime in another year or so. With his contract at the King Power winding down, Foxes boss Brendan Rodger faces a real fight to keep his star man beyond next summer.
Here is what Rodgers told the press (h/t Liverpool Echo) about Tielemans’ future with the club, as he is in the last six months of his contract (Transfermarkt) at the King Power Stadium and could possibly head out sooner than expected:
“I respect that he’s in his last year, of course I want to tie him down. He’s been a brilliant player for this club and is still at a great age. It’s something that has to be right for all parties.”
“Nothing changes for me in that aspect, we just continue to hopefully find a resolution to it and have him sign here. I think it’s one where we want to do everything we can to convince him to stay.”
Youri to the Reds?
Tielemans has five goals and three assists in 26 appearances for the Foxes this season across all competitions. That is seven more goal contributions than the entire Liverpool midfield trio of Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson combined. That alone speaks levels of the Reds underperforming in the middle of the park this season, causing a lot of mayhem at the club.
We are undeniably in a transitional phase and need two or three players who could immediately fit into the starting XI and hopefully, get results almost immediately. Tielemans is a player with prior Premier League experience, and any Premier League follower would know how good of a player he is.
The Reds should make the most of the fact that he is heading into the final few months of his contract as Rodgers said, and arrange a pre-contract agreement with the player so that there is no problem later on.

Liverpool are linked with numerous midfielders, but hopefully, we also sign a few as it is a real necessity, and even the Brentford game proves the point further.
