Transfer News: Bayern Munich eyeing a move for Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino
German giants Bayern Munich are believed to be eyeing a move for Liverpool and Brazil forward Roberto Firmino, according to Media Foot (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The 31-year-old sees his current contract run out in the summer and he is currently free to discuss his future with clubs outside of England. The Bundesliga champions are free to speak with him and hope to reunite him with Sadio Mane.
Jurgen Klopp has, however, has made it clear that he wants to keep hold of the Brazilian. It would make sense to do so as he has proven himself to be a reliable player throughout the years.
Firmino, despite his lack of game time has been one of our consistent forwards this season. The 31-year-old has featured in 13 league games, scoring seven goals and registering another three assists in the process.
But with the Reds signing the likes of young talents like Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez in back-to-back windows, the former TSG Hoffenheim forward could be forced to look elsewhere for more game time.
While an offer from the German side could be enticing for the forward who has been at the club since 2015, it will be wise for Klopp to convince him to extend his stay for a couple more seasons.
Nunez has proven himself to be unreliable in front of goal, while the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are currently out injured. There are limited options up front while our midfield also needs revamping.
To rebuild a squad, it will take some time and it would not make sense to sell a player who has been in good form this season. With the window open, it will be wise for the Reds to offer the centre-forward a new short-term contract, especially keeping in mind his versatility to play as a second striker as well as a number 10.

The player, however, also has to be on board with such a proposition. It is clear he is not a regular starter for us now, and a potential reunion with Sadio Mane at the Allianz Arena can’t be completely discarded by fans for that reason.
