Transfer News: Liverpool dealt major blow in the pursuit of Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners

In what could prove to be a significant blow to the Reds, Liverpool stand told that they have absolutely no chance of getting Atalanta’s Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners this January.

The 24-year-old central midfielder was originally on the Reds’ transfer list before moving to the Italian outfit back last season. However, Liverpool would have been much better off if they would have actually signed their target last season.

At his age, he could have proven to be the future of the Reds’ midfield pivot given the current lot is not getting any younger by the day. Jurgen Klopp could certainly do with some reinforcements in that department but this setback means that Koopmeiners will not join the Reds, at least in January.

Major Blow to the Reds

As reported by Tutto Atalanta via Liverpool Echo, the representatives at La Dea gave the Reds a ‘dry no’ and the report also states that the player will ‘not move in January’ in any circumstance.

With this bolt from the blue, the Reds should ideally turn their focus towards convincing other transfer targets to move to Merseyside. The likes of Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez continue to see themselves linked with a move to Merseyside, and getting them next summer will be a Cloud 9-esque situation for the team and the fans alike.

However, having someone like Koopmeiners could have benefitted the Reds as he is a proven goal-scoring midfielder which the Reds have lacked ever since the departure of Phillipe Coutinho back in 2018. Nevertheless, there are plenty of fish in the sea, but this time, the fisherman that is Liverpool should get their hands on two, possibly three midfielders by the summer window of 2023.
