AC Milan reach an agreement with Liverpool target Ismael Bennacer over a new contract
In what could have its own repercussions later on, the Reds stand handed a blow in their transfer plans as AC Milan and Liverpool transfer target Ismael Bennacer reach an agreement over a new deal for the 25-year-old Algerian defensive midfielder.
His current deal which stood set to expire in 2024 (Transfermarkt) will now extend until 2027 with a release clause of €50m included in the same as well as per Fabrizio Romano’s Twitter. His outstanding performances for the Serie A giants attracted the eyes of Liverpool, but it seems like the speculations will head nowhere as the player will stay in the Italian capital.
The Arsenal academy graduate is a very capable holding midfielder who is good at retaining possession and transitioning the game from defence to attack as we have seen him do at Stefano Pioli’s side over the last few seasons.
Even though not the most popular name when it comes to Liverpool’s transfer targets, the ones who have watched him play know how much of a smart operator he is when it comes to running I Rossoneri‘s midfield. He can play as a number six and as a number eight as well – which is always a bonus for manager Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Bennacer won’t move to the Reds
However, with his commitment to the Serie A giants, the Reds will need to turn their heads elsewhere to look for a player who could challenge Fabinho for a spot in the Starting XI. Moises Caicedo of Brighton is an able candidate, and so are plenty of the other names who see themselves linked with a move to Liverpool.
One thing is certain, that is the Reds certainly need to get a central midfielder and a versatile defensive midfielder on board by the next summer. The depth we currently possess is dangerous, not for other teams but for us.
And we need to act on it sooner than later or else it will come back to haunt us at times when we would be least expecting it to hit us. One would say that it already did in the starting stages of the season where we lost so much ground that we are evidently out of the title race already.
Ultimately, the team will need to weigh the pros and cons and decide what is best for their long-term goals. Jude Bellingham is someone who could be the answer to most of our problems, and hopefully, we get him on board.

In a way, fans would perhaps be okay with Bennacer extending his deal at Milan so that the club runs out of targets and instead, focus on Bellingham – a player surely all Liverpool fans would want on board.
