Liverpool might still go for Moises Caicedo in the January transfer window
According to Ben Jacobs (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are yet to bid for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, although there are chances that they eventually might do so in the January transfer window.
Liverpool are claimed to be active in the current window in a bid to bolster their chance of finishing in the top four and attaining UEFA Champions League qualification.
We have already added Cody Gakpo to our ranks but Jacobs believes that the club might be even more active before the window closes and Caicedo is one to look out for.
“One to watch is Moises Caicedo and this is the one Liverpool think they might go for in January. But contrary to reports, Liverpool have not yet bid for Moises Caicedo. There’s even reports out there that Liverpool have bid twice for Moises Caicedo.”
Liverpool were previously linked with Caicedo in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise due to Brighton’s reluctance to sell the player.
If Jacobs is correct about the Reds making offers for the Ecuador international, then it at least signals that the club understands they have to strengthen in midfield and are trying to make things happen.
With a change of manager, hopefully they have had a change of heart as well and are willing to cash in on the player who has been earning rave reviews since his move to the Premier League. A club of their status, at least for now, and with all due respect, will struggle to fulfil a top player’s ambitions as Liverpool could right now.
While he has made a meagre 29 appearances in English football, there is heavy interest in the player due to his impressive performances in the league. Many tout him to be amongst the top players in the future and at just 21 years of age, provides a really good value for money.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are in dire need of new reinforcements in the ageing midfield which is being caught out on too many occasions now. The latest defeat to Brentford in the league summarised the current situation perfectly and something needs to be done urgently or else risk losing out on the season.
Caicedo, although still in the phase of mastering the game, would provide freshness and steel to our midfield, which has been missing since the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum.

With more than half of the transfer window, it would turn out to be really successful if we manage to add Caicedo for the remainder of the season. He may not be cheap, but that’s what quality costs in modern football – and hopefully FSG understand that.
